Authentic to master Ajrakh craftsmanship, it features double-sided resist printing (Bipuri), making the vibrant motifs fully reversible on both sides. Craft Story & Artisanal Process

The Vanaspati Ajrakh Modal Silk Saree carries a legacy traced back thousands of years to the Indus Valley Civilization. "Vanaspati" refers to the exclusive use of 100% plant, fruit, and mineral-based natural extracts, completely free from synthetic pigments or heavy-metal chemical fixatives.

The Double-Sided Reversible Mastery (Bipuri):

Unlike modern single-sided screen or digital prints, authentic Ajrakh involves a complex double-sided block printing technique known as Bipuri. Artisans stamp the exact geometric and floral motifs on both the front and back of the sheer modal fabric in precise registration. This yields a fully reversible saree with identical color depth, pattern clarity, and richness on either side.

The 16-Step Artisanal Journey:

1. Saaj & Harda Treatment: The pure modal fabric is washed repeatedly and treated with Harda (myrobalan nut solution), establishing a natural tannic base to absorb organic dyes.

2. Double-Sided Dabu Resist Printing: Master block printers meticulously stamp wooden blocks coated in a natural resist paste (slaked lime, Arabic gum, and clay) onto both sides of the fabric.

3. Natural Dye Baths: The fabric undergoes sequential dips in natural dye vats—deep blues from indigo leaves, rich maroons from madder root (Manjistha), and blacks from fermented iron rust and jaggery.

4. Washing & Sun-Drying: Washing the fabric in running river or tank water clears the resist paste, revealing crisp contrast motifs against a lustrous modal canvas.

Care Instructions

First Wash: Dry clean recommended, or gentle hand-soak separately in cold water with a mild eco-friendly detergent.

Drying: Air dry in shade. Avoid direct sunlight to preserve natural botanical pigments.

Ironing: Iron on medium-warm settings on either side.

Conditions for Exchanges: 

•  The item must be unworn, unwashed, and in its original condition with tags attached.   

•  Proof of purchase, such as the original receipt or order confirmation, is required for all exchanges.
