Craft Details

Indigenous Fiber: Organic Kala Cotton

Sourced directly from the arid landscape of Kutch, Gujarat, Kala Cotton (Gossypium herbaceum) is an indigenous, rain-fed old-world cotton strain grown entirely without synthetic fertilizers or irrigation. Naturally pest-resistant and carbon-neutral, it produces a distinct, textured handspun yarn that offers exceptional breathability—softening and gaining a richer texture with every wash, unlike conventional chemically bleached cotton that degrades and stiffens over time.

Yarn Dyeing & Weaving Technique

Crafted by master weavers of the Vankar artisan community, the raw Kala cotton yarn is dip-dyed prior to dressing the loom. The saree features a deep rust-indigo field contrasted against unbleached cream yarns. The intricate geometric motifs across the pallu and borders are achieved using the traditional Kutchi extra-weft weaving technique, where additional pattern threads are manually inserted thread-by-thread into the shed during weaving.

Embellishment: Abhla Bharat (Hand Mirror Work)

Scattered along the body and pallu are real glass mirrors (abhla) individually stitched onto the fabric by hand using traditional Kutchi needlework. The mirrors are secured using hand-embroidered cotton thread frames, creating subtle light reflection across the deep navy weave.

Ancestral Finishes

The end of the pallu is finished with traditional hand-twisted yarn tassels and hand-knotted fringe work, honoring the age-old aesthetic of classic Kutchi dhablas and shawls.

Care Instructions

Finishing Your Saree: As is natural with authentic textiles, the raw ends may gently fray. To preserve the longevity of your saree, we recommend securing the edges with simple hand-stitched hem or a quick sewing machine stitch.


Washing: Gentle hand wash in cold water using a mild, PH-neutral liquid detergent. Do not scrub, twist, or wring tightly. • Protect the mirrors: Don't scrub or wring the embroidered areas. Fold the saree with the mirror work on the inside, and press the water out gently.

Drying: Always dry flat in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Keep away from direct, harsh sunlight to prevent natural colors from fading over time.

Storage & Wearing: Saree is a layered wear garment—airing out after wear is often sufficient rather than washing after every single use. Store wrapped in soft cotton fabric.

Ironing: Steam iron or light warm iron on reverse for a smooth, crisp finish.

  • Importation: International freight from India to our studio, alongside all customs and import duties.
  • Operations: Secure payment gateway fees, packaging, handling and platform maintenance.
