Craft Details

The Heritage of Ajrakh

Derived from the Arabic word "Azrak" (blue), Ajrakh is a sophisticated form of hand-block printing that originated in the Indus Valley. It is not merely a print, but a labor-intensive craft involving multiple stages of washing, printing with hand-carved blocks, and resist-dyeing. The patterns—often stars, trefoils, and intricate lattices—represent the cosmos and the architectural heritage of the region.

Authentic Natural Palette

These jackets feature the traditional Ajrakh palette: deep Indigo (derived from the indigofera plant), earthy Madder Red, and rich Kashish (blacks and greys derived from rusted iron and jaggery). Because these are natural dyes, the colors possess a depth and "living" quality that synthetic prints cannot replicate.

The Silhouette: Versatility in Form

Moving away from western "boho" stereotypes, this jacket celebrates the Indianized aesthetic of structured, modest elegance. The high neck and mid-length sleeve provide a professional yet artisanal look, while the contrast borders at the hem and cuffs highlight the precision of the block-alignment. It is a bridge between ancestral skill and the modern wardrobe.

WASH INSTRUCTIONS FOR AJRAKH CLOTHING

Your garment has been hand block printed with hand carved wood blocks.

• Initial Care: Hand wash separately in cold water with a pinch of salt to stabilize the natural dyes.
• Detergent: Use a mild, pH-neutral liquid detergent. Avoid any cleaning agents containing bleach or optical brighteners.
• Drying: Air dry in a shaded area. Direct sunlight can cause natural indigo and madder to fade prematurely.
• Ironing: Warm iron on the reverse side to protect the crispness of the block print.
• Note: As with all authentic hand-block prints, minor irregularities in the pattern are not defects but the signature of the artisan's hand.

The delivery time and cost will depend on your location and the option you selected.  

 Before your product is shipped off, you are welcome to make alterations to your order as you see fit.  

We do rigorous quality controls before shipping out our merchandise. But if you encounter a faulty product, contact us so we can initiate the returns procedure.

Conditions for Exchanges: 

•  The item must be unworn, unwashed, and in its original condition with tags attached.   

•  Proof of purchase, such as the original receipt or order confirmation, is required for all exchanges.

To keep delivery fair, shipping is calculated at checkout using standardized flat rates based on the garment's weight.
