The Craft: Authentic Madras Handloom

This vastra is a masterclass in radical transparency and heritage textile engineering. The striking, oversized Madras checks you see are not screen-printed—they are born from the literal intersection of dyed warp and weft threads.

Crafted from entirely natural, porous cotton, this weave allows your skin to breathe perfectly, completely free from the suffocating microplastics of synthetic fast fashion. The vivid, geometric blocks of Haldi Yellow, Rani Pink, Neelam Blue, and Sindoor Orange celebrate the vibrant legacy of Indian textile geometry. Every single thread retains the pure, living energy—the woven prana.

Important: Not all machine-woven Madras checks are “fake.” Many mills in India now produce genuine yarn-dyed cotton Madras checks using power looms. They are authentic in material and construction, even if they aren’t handwoven. The real distinction is between yarn-dyed woven checks and printed imitation checks, rather than handloom versus power loom.

Care Instructions

To preserve the vivid yarn-dyed colors and the structural integrity of the natural cotton, please observe the following rituals:

Hand Wash or Gentle Machine Cycle: Wash in cold water with mild, natural detergents.

Wash Separately: Vibrant yarn-dyed fabrics may naturally release excess color during the first few washes.

Dry in Shade: Protect the rich geometric hues by air-drying away from direct, harsh sunlight.

•  The item must be unworn, unwashed, and in its original condition with tags attached.

  • Importation: International freight from India to our studio, alongside all customs and import duties.
  • Operations: Secure payment gateway fees, packaging, handling and platform maintenance.
  • Sustenance & Design: A 35% margin that sustains the business, supports the historical research behind these indigenous tying systems, and compensates for the bespoke design process.
